Take a moment to review these tips in an effort to help improve the quality of the air inside your home.
- Control Dust: Dust irritates allergies and contains more hazardous chemicals than we realize. Be sure to clean the bag and filter of your vacuum so dust doesn’t spew back into the air
- Kick The Nicotine Habit: Secondhand smoke is the greatest trigger of asthma in children.
- Get Your Home Tested for Lead Paint: Lead poisoning can cause brain damage in young children if left untreated. Your local health department can do lead paint testing. Visit the Consumer Product Safety Commission for more information about lead paint testing.
- Get Your Home Tested for Radon: Radon is a radioactive gas that can cause cancer. Any home, old or new, can have radon gas. It comes from the breakdown of soil and rock underneath homes. You can buy a home radon test kit at hardware/home stores.
- Control Household Moisture: Mold and mildew love high humidity. Since we live in Florida, we must stay proactive about controlling moisture all year ’round. Be sure to pay attention to and fix the little things, like dripping faucets. Also, you could purchase a dehumidifier to help prevent indoor humidity.
- Get an Air Purifier: Your indoor air can be polluted five times more than outdoor air. An air purifier will help to remove odors, chemical vapors, and other pollutants.
- Ventilation: A properly ventilated home will exhaust stale air and bring in fresh air. For natural ventilation, occasionally open your windows and doors.
- Healthy Ductwork = Better Breathing: Your ductwork is a crucial part of your home’s air conditioning and heating system. If your ductwork is damaged, it will affect the air inside your home. Typically, ductwork is located in your attic or under your home. In either situation, it is possible for animals to damage your ducts. When this happens, it could cause your A/C system to blow that dirty air from your attic/crawl space into your house. Let us make sure your ductwork is healthy!
