Last time, we talked about the 3 sources of poor indoor air quality. To review, those three sources are a high concentration of: particles, gaseous odors and microbial spores. Now, we are going to dig into particles specifically and answer these two questions: What are they and what can we do to minimize the particles that are in the air?
What are they? – Well, there are hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of particles in any given square foot of air. Some examples of particles that are found in the air include, but are not limited to: dust, dust mites, pollen, pet dander, fibers, carpet fibers, skin fibers, fiberglass, and smoke (which is actually considered to be both a particle and a gas).
What can we do to minimize the particles that are in the air? – The first option is to remove the source of the particles. The easiest way to explain this is found with pet dander. If someone in the home is allergic to the dog, the most simple way to alleviate the allergy is to remove the dog. Unfortunately, that is not always the easiest thing to do – everyone loves dogs! Fortunately, there is another solution.
