So you just bought a brand-new AC system, ever wonder how to make it last longer?

At Tri County Air, we recognize that an air conditioner is a big investment for you and your family, so it is important to us that you know how to get the most out of your unit!

Here are some easy tips on how to do just that:

  1. Let your AC BREATHE

It is critical that your AC system is paired with a clean air filter. The air filter’s job is to catch pollutants in the air and keep them from cycling through your air conditioner and getting into your home. But did you know that if you let your air filter get too dirty it could suffocate your unit? When this happens it forces your AC system to work harder and therefore wear down on its life span and efficiency. We recommend that you change your air filter at least once every 3 months, if not more. We also suggest that through the duration of 3 months, you keep your eye on it! Because the goings-on of your household are always changing, so will the status of your air filter!

  1. Pets, Kids, and Candles, OH MY!

Oh the deadly PKC’s… deadly to your air filter that is. Lets face it, as much as we adore our children and our fur-children, they are all inherently and seemingly irrevocably MESSY. Dander and dirt are a problem in any household containing pets and tikes, and don’t even get us started on when they leave the doors open… Candles are great for ambiance and atmosphere, but here’s a not-so-fun-fact about your AC vs. a burning candle: When candles are lit, soot-particles float up into the air and since they are so small, your air filter is not able to catch them. They float over and attach to your AC’s evaporating coil forcing the unit to work that much harder. This also reduces the quality of your air. All of these things put extra stress on your already hard working air filter, so make sure you’re keeping up to date on your AC’s last line of defense against airborne pollutants.

  1. Never hide your AC pride!

We are all very familiar as Floridians with the everglade/tropical foliage growing all around us, and even though you might consider your AC unit an eye sore in your yard it’s important not to hide it with shrubbery. Everyone loves gardenia’s, hibiscuses and bougainvillea’s… well, everyone except your air conditioner that is. Planting trees and bushes around your unit can obstruct its airflow and sometimes even clog the AC’s vents! When this happens, it not only thwarts your unit’s efforts, it also reduces its life span.

  1. A tune-up a year keeps your AC clear!

Just like a car needs an oil change and tune-up so does your AC unit, just not quiet as often! It’s very important to keep your air conditioner ‘healthy’, just like any other major appliance in your home. The warranties for your units can be pretty tricky, and regulations are more strict than ever. If you don’t have annual tune-ups from a licensed professional or reputable company your warranty may be considered void!
