It’s HOT. Like, REALLY HOT. And as if that wasn’t enough, we have to deal with the infamous Florida humidity. During this time of distress, we turn faithfully to our seemingly heroic air conditioners. God forbid they let us down in our hour of need. One way to ensure your AC unit helps you beat the heat this summer is by preparing it for the hot months with 4 easy steps!
1. Clean Air Filters
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. If you neglect your AC’s filter, you are setting up for failure my friend. A dirty filter is the equivalent of a death sentence for your unit. It takes approximately 5 to 7 minutes to change a filter, and you can conveniently purchase new filters (or even a washable/reusable filter) at any home improvement store, or your local AC care providers!
2. Clear Vents Outdoors
Your outdoor vents of your unit are going to be prone to clogging up with leaves, weeds, and other un-pleasantries, so it’s important to keep an eye out for it. If your vents become severely clogged, they will be insufficient in circulating air, take a toll on your IAQ and may even suffocate your unit.
3. Update Your Insulation
Sometimes, there’s nothing wrong with your unit, sometimes it’s actually your house’s (or a particular room’s) insulation. A room may not be able to retain cool (or warm) temperatures because of lack of good insulation, it may be time to update yours.
4. Remove Coil Blankets or Condenser Covers
It is common to use coil blankets or condenser covers in the winter time to help conceal and retain heat, but it’s imperative to remove them when summer rolls around otherwise those coils and condensers will cook in the heat under their covers.
