Lately, if you aren’t used to chilly weather, you might have been able to relate to this little guy…Especially if your significant other sacrifices heat to save a few dollars during the winter time. Though you might think they are crazy, it turns out that they might be saving more money than you think! Believe it or not, according to FPL, running your heat in the winter uses more energy than running your AC in the summer (potentially up to three times as much). Yes, even in Florida!
So, if you are looking for ways to save some money while staying comfortable, here are a few ideas for you:
1. Use bubble wrap to insulate out-of-the-way windows
Simply spray with water, apply the wrap or film, and remove when it is warmer by peeling it off.
2. Dress Appropriately For The Weather
You finally have a reason to break out those sweaters, long pants and socks! Go ahead and wear a few layers to stay warm and save some cash.
3. Drink Hot Drinks
Use the chilliness as an excuse to drink some extra coffee, tea, cider or hot chocolate.
4. Never Turn On Your Heat With Open Windows
This might seem like common sense, but if your significant other does let you turn on the heat, make sure to double check that all the windows and doors are closed tight so none of it escapes.
5. set your thermostat to 68°
When you are home, try to keep your thermostat set to 68º or lower. When you are away, turn the heat off altogether.
